Yes, this is painfully true. Both my wife and I grew up in societies where we were part of the ethnic majority (she was a black girl in Barbados and I was a white boy in an Italian-American neighborhood in CT). I think it left us both with a blind spot when it came to the truth that we were endangering our boys by not preparing them for the world they were growing up in. I got a rude awakening about that, one day, thanks to some very kind classmates.
