Slavery

  • Peacefully abolished in England in 1834.
  • Abolished in the USA in 1865 at a cost of 750,000 lives and it’s never really gone away (pick up a copy of The New Jim Crow if that last part confuses you).

Covid-19

  • The UK is bending the covid curve down.
  • The USA is failing miserably (the chart above is logarithmic, so it makes things look better for us than they really are).

Can somebody remind me about why we’re celebrating our independence from the UK? Something about tea or something?
