Revolution is the fire next time

I read an interesting article that considered whether or not we’re on the brink of revolution (it’s linked on Drudge Report, of all places). The article’s author cites a number of historical models that suggest the we might actually be near the precipice and headed toward the abyss.

Are we going over the edge? On the basis of my academic credentials (none) and research (which is limited to the above-reference article, to be honest), I’d guess that no, we are not inexorably destined for a widespread rebellion.

But I do think we’re at the brink. What would push us over the edge?

If you step back a bit and take a wider look, the dynamics come into a little more focus:

  • The election of a black man with an Islamic-sounding name in 2016 created a whitelash that is playing out in the news and on social media every day.
  • A non-trivial portion of the country thinks that it’s absolutely reasonable to hunt down and kill a black man running through a white neighborhood.
  • We live in a country that is under the rule of a widely hated, deeply unpopular man.
  • The ruling Republican party’s solution to their problem (which is that they need to prop up this incompetent, wannabe tinpot dictator) is to engage in ever more desperate attempts at voter…
