I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but please, stop with the Trumpist deplorables talking point. She actually said THIS:

She said the other half of Trump’s supporters “feel that the government has let them down” and are “desperate for change.”

...the fact of the matter is that the solid, radioactive core of Trump support comprises EXACTLY this cohort of racist (etc.) assholes. None of them voted for Obama, or would ever vote for a non-white, non-male, non-racist candidate, at this point.

These people are not what (I assume) you mean by your alternate self. I hope you'd put yourself in the other (non-deplorable) half of Trump supporters, who (rightly) think they've gotten a raw deal.
