Agreed. This notion that the Senate Republicans want to see a defense along the lines that "an ex-president can't be impeached" is laughable. They're going to vote on that premise anyway, regardless of what batshittery is spouted by the defense lawyers. People who weren't embarrassed by the fact that their guy engaged in (and is still supporting) a violent insurrection won't have any trouble dismissing a mismatch between legal arguments and reality.
